While the core tech itself is still run by the UESC, active use of these early model RECON SHELLS was discontinued after it was found that the incoming data collected by its various information gathering systems had a chance to scramble the neural integrity of the mind housed within. RUNNERS, as is typical to their general outlook, are less concerned with the consequences of the technology they use to survive/thrive. So, when RECON SHELLS and schemas started showing up in RUNNER circles, they jumped at the chance to benefit from the positives while chalking up the negatives alongside everything else that can go wrong on a run. COMMON SHELL SERIES: The codename BLACKBIRD is another byproduct of the UESC's combat SHELL initiative. Like the DESTROYER's LOCUS personality series, BLACKBIRD was engineered to support the mental integrity of soldiers deployed into active combat scenarios. Its calm but decisive vocalization pattern gives it a commanding presence with a general focus on directness to ensure clear communication of battlefield intel. RUNNER kit-bashing of a SHELL's underlying systems to better fit their criminal needs is said to have played a part in jailbreaking a deep-coded "command:follow" protocol hidden inside all personality matrixes originating from UESC Combat Science Labs, raising concerns over the legitimacy of a UESC deployed RUNNER's free thought and their ability to consider active orders.
